The Gyumri ceramics in Lyon
2016
2016
On the initiative of the Muscari association, the Tour Rose gallery in Lyon is hosting an exhibition and sale of ceramics from March 4 to April 30, 2016.
These pieces are made in Gyumri (Armenia) according to the know-how of the Armenian potters of Kütahya, major center of the art of ceramics in the Ottoman Empire, between the 16th and 19th century.
This event is part of a major project to promote the economic and artistic forces of the city of Gyumri, initiated by Antonio Montalto, doctor and honorary consul of Italy to Gyumri and the Pamokdjian family.
The Muscari association plans the creation of several points of sale of Armenian crafts, in France and in Italy, the Armenian Houses, true relays of a culture in full rebirth, after 70 years of a Soviet regime and 25 years of national independence.
In addition to the uniqueness of the works, the originality of this exhibition lies in its ambition to put art at the service of the resurgence of a spoliated past and economic development of a city, devastated by the economic crisis, but also by the terrible earthquake of 1988.
The selection, presented in Lyon as a world premiere, includes 150 unique pieces made by Armenian craftsmen, with assertive know-how.
This event is supported by the City of Lyon, the Family Care and The Friends of Gyumri Foundations, as well as the Samani Gallery.
