The Gyumri ceramics in Paris
2017
2017
Muscari organized an exhibition and sale of traditional ceramics from November 29 to December 3, 2017 at the De Gournay gallery in Paris.
On the initiative of the Family Care Foundation and the Muscari organization, a craft workshop of ceramics was created in 2014, in the city of Gyumri (Armenia), in the tradition of the Armenian potters of Kütahya.
The originality of this approach lies in its ambition to put art at the service of the resurgence of a spoliated past and the economic development of a city devastated by the terrible 1988 earthquake and the hazards of the economic crisis.
It allows the inhabitants of the damaged Gyumri to reconnect with gestures and a tradition of authentically Armenian craftsmanship, dating back five centuries. It thus contributes to their reappropriation of an original culture, destroyed in 1915. The ceramics factory of Gyumri has already instilled a new dynamic and allowed to create about fifteen jobs.
