After an initial meeting with Armenian ceramic decorators during their art residency in France, Odile Cazanave-Pin, a French ceramicist, is preparing to reunite with them in Armenia.
Indeed, from October 22nd to November 6th, she will be participating in the second professionalization mission of the year at the ceramic workshop of the Family Care Foundation in Gumri.
The goal is to continue the training of the members of the Gumri ceramics workshop and the young volunteers from the Hartashen school (Syunik Region).
In addition to producing pieces inspired by the forms of Kutahya ceramics, Odile Cazanave-Pin will provide instruction in pottery throwing to the participants of this training and share her knowledge about the use of gold with the decorating team at the Gumri workshop.
Thus, Odile Cazanave-Pin’s visit continues in the footsteps of previous missions with a clear goal: to enhance the skills of the teams in Gumri and Hartashen, enabling them to showcase their expertise in both Armenia and France.
“I am very happy to go to Armenia to share my expertise with young passionate ceramists. The interest they showed in my work during their visit to Cliousclat touched me deeply. In my career as a potter, I had the opportunity to travel and teach pottery to Egyptian teenagers at the Fayoum school and work with potters in New Zealand. I look forward to this new ceramic sharing adventure.”
Odile Cazanave-Pin, about the Gumri workshop
After diverse training with numerous potters and earning a CAP in turning at the International Center for Arts and Ceramics, Odile Cazanave Pin set up her studio in Mirmande in 2000. There, she developed a personal production where often floral decorations enhance her pieces. As a turning specialist, she is dedicated to making the use of ceramics beautiful, going beyond the decorations.
Proof of her commitment to the gestures and pottery tradition, in 2022, she joined the traditional pottery of Cliousclat (Drôme), where she set up her studio, Calicot.
The teams of the Family Care Foundation and the Muscari association express their gratitude to Embassy of France in Armenia, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, the Metropolis of Lyon, the City of Lyon , and to the company Fineco for their support in this project.
